Dry Practice Reference for Handguns Proven Tips from an Advanced Front Sight Student is the culmination of over a decade of experience from numerous Front Sight students. These students have progressed through Front Sight’s basic and intermediate handgun courses to Front Sight’s most difficult course…the Handgun Combat Master Prep Course.

This pamphlet picks up where the Front Sight Handgun Reference Manuel leaves off. This pamphlet addresses additional topics such as muscle memory and training options, such as the selection of an alternate weapon type, like Airsoft. The Dry Practice Reference for Handguns also covers topics related to dry practice safety and issues specific to women and dry practice.

The Dry Practice Reference also includes recommended training schedules for those wanting to establish a training regiment to improve muscle memory, and a collection of Youtube video links of recommended videos.

The Dry Practice Reference is written under the training doctrine of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, which itself was derived from the teachings of Colonel Jeff Cooper.

The basic ideas are great. I don't even have a problem with the selling of the app. Yes it is $100. But if they spent $5000 building it (that would be cheap) and only ever expect to sell a few hundred copies (super niche app after all ), they might break even.

The big problem I have with this is the skills themselves. Clear a Type 1 malfunction. What is that? No explanation, no step by step, nothing to help. The schedule could have given some basic diagrams or steps. I am assuming the app does, but they should be here as well.

And the super busy schedule has you do one skill a month for two years??? Impossible. How about spending 5 mins on 4 skills a month to get your 20 mins a month. Just unreasonable to break it out over two years.

it had some basic information however I already knew most of the info in the book.
I like the book because it offered some very excellent tips and excercises on just making the best use of dry firing when live fire isn't an option
Clear, simple, and concise phamphlet that is excellent for beginning shooters who need to learn the fundamentals. Very good practice exercises to help one master the principles of good marksmanship!
Super good book. It helped out.
dry practice is where you get good and youu drill the basics, shooting 5 boxes of ammo and wasting three of them is; Stupid? Expensive? and not the way to get good. if you want to be a better shooter put in a dry practice routine. the book is good and give you the basics. and what else is there.
perfect practice, makes perfect
Quick read. Was hoping for an assortment of dry practice (fire) drills. I was looking for one that would tighten my groups from a two-handed modified isosceles stance. Spent most of the book justifying dry practice and different tools/equipment that can be used. Good material just not what I was hoping for.
I thought it would be great to read a book that provided in-depth information on dry firing. This 37-page "book," which the author herself describes as a pamphlet, doesn't provide that information. It starts out with basic information on gun safety, discusses the use of replica guns for dry fire, attempts to sell some timing software apparently associated with the author, and concludes with a few dry fire exercises which aren't particularly detailed or helpful and could be found for free on the internet or in other books on pistol shooting.

Apart from being superficial, some of the content is incorrect. For example, the following quote confuses single-action and double-action handguns and says that single-action handguns tend to have a much heavier trigger pull than double-action handguns, which is obviously not the case "Airsoft systems that use Gas Non-blowback (GNB) or spring mechanisms, on the other hand, rely on your trigger pull to set the action, and so tend to feel like the first pull of single-action pistols –that is, they tend to have a much heavier trigger than your average ‘stock’ real, double-action pistol."

There are some spelling and grammar errors that would have been caught by a professional editor, but these are not a big deal.

A word of warning if you are thinking of buying this book first download the free sample or at least look at it within a week of buying it so that you can return it. Better yet, buy a more comprehensive book on pistol shooting, like Ben Stoeger's superb Practical Pistol Reloaded, and read the section about dry firing.
